S T A T E M E N T
As an interdisciplinary artist coming from a background in political studies, I rely on visual cues to recognise ambiguity in forms, languages and ethics of representation.
In using archive and found material, I explore the intricacies of uncertainty in the multi-layered contemporary context by combining different artistic techniques, primarily painting and drawing, but also print, assemblage and collage techniques. By adopting an epistemological perspective, I am intrigued by the possibility of what representation can do, twisting its languages and working with them.
Finding connections with the work of William Kentridge, Kara Walker and Marlene Dumas, my practice lies in political art: an art -and politics- in which reality perceptions are deconstructed and the dynamics of power are understood through the lens of history, iconic representations and stereotypes.
